Scenographic details

Messrs Dagorne and Descayrac, attached to the conservation service of the Museum of Gajac asked us to evoke in this project the everyday life, the trade and navigation in the valley of the Lot during the eighteenth century.

A first room had to be scenographied in a strictly documentary and historical presentation. A second one had to illustrate the descent of the Lot in barge around 1885.

For the latter, we decided to set up a exhibition and show based around a voice with the tinted accent of the Pays d'Oc, telling a story in the manner used by storytellers in the south-western region of France. The text by Richard Dagorne, described the numerous adventures of a traveller descending the course of the river.

Visitors could walk into the set. Their steps were guided by the voice of the conteur and triggered lighting effects illustrating its remarks.

At the center of the room, a very large table presented a handpainted map of the descent of the valley of the Lot, lit especially on the cities and the sites evoked in the story.

In periphery of the room, immense racks were drawn up, cluttered by objects. This presentation, in the style of the cabinets of curiosity, let appear owing to narrative lightings, scenes reconstituted with pieces of furniture and objects, from the daily life of workers and lords of the 18th century.

All immersing visitors into a poetic dream of a past space-time.
